Yarnsies

I usually hate ordering yarn online because I don’t like not being able to see and touch what I’m going to be knitting with, and while I love getting things in the mail, I hate waiting for it. Especially if it’s yarn. Or pretty much any craft-related stuffs.

That said, there are a lot of ridiculous deals to be found online. I highly recommend it.

So anyway, a few days ago I was looking everywhere online for two things: Araucania Patagonia in colorway #209 and Berroco Campus in All-Nighter (I know, I’m super original in my color choices — in my defense, sometimes designers really know what they’re doing when they pick colors!). My lys had Berroco Campus but only in weird colorways or strictly black/white/greys, and they don’t carry any Araucania.

So I looked online. Yarn.com had the Berroco but they no longer carried the Patagonia in the colorway I wanted.

So I looked on eBay. I’d never bought yarn on eBay before but I’ve bought all sorts of craftish things on there so I thought I’d look. I ended up finding the exact yarn in the exact colorway for half the price on yarn.com! -squee-

And then I started looking for interim projects, expecting it to take about a week for my yarns to arrive.

Except they both showed up at my doorstep yesterday!

Isn’t this just a scrumptious collection of reds? It’s 100% cotton and ridiculously soft.

And here’s the Campus. I can’t get over how cool this yarn is! When you look at it up close it looks like there are even amounts of purple, pale blue, and orange, and even some flecks of turquoise and pale pink! But then you knit it up and it just looks purple.

Anyway, you can imagine what I spent all of yesterday doing. In fact I meant to do this post yesterday but obviously was distracted. Hee.

Jetlagged

Well, I’m back in Boston where there is an utter lack of snow. Or anything resembling snow.

As a form of protest, I’ve spent the afternoon oggling patterns and buying yarn online.

My next two projects are going to be this one and this one, probably in that order, although I guess it depends on which yarn arrives first.

I popped over to my lys earlier because I knew I’d seen Berocco Campus in there before. Sadly they didn’t have the color I wanted, and every single other colorway is either a mix of gray/black/white which is not what I wanted, or was a hideous mix of colors. So I ended up ordering the yarn from WEBS. And now I’m antsily attempting to work on Seester’s Christmas sweater instead, whilst intermittently checking the shipping status of the order I just placed two hours ago every fifteen minutes.

I ordered yarn for Bazan from eBay because I couldn’t find the colorway I wanted anywhere else. And of course the more places that didn’t have it, the more I wanted it. There was a moment right before I clicked “Place Order” when I asked myself, am I really going to wear a red shrug? But I decided that yes, I am, so I bought three skeins. For $5.80 each! Even WEBS lists this yarn for $12.95 per skein! -happy dance-

Speaking of Seester’s Christmas sweater, I think I mentioned that she squee’d over my Effortless Cardigan when I wore it at home and decided she wanted one in a plum-ish color. I’m currently about 2.5″ past splitting the sleeves. Note to self: straight stockinette is no fun when you’re impatiently awaiting more exciting yarn deliveries.

Finally, as the title suggests, I’ve been here two days and am still feeling groggy. You’d think that three hours wouldn’t be that hard to adjust to but technically waking up at 10am here is like waking up at 7am back home, and that’s quite a difference. Especially when you take into consideration the fact that I actually woke up at 1:30pm today. Which technically, my body thinks of as 10:30am, which is a perfectly respectable time to wake up.

Anyway, my point is, pictures later and apologies if none of this made sense.

More pretties

Technically I’m not supposed to be buying anymore yarn but rules are meant to be broken so I went and bought two gorgeous skeins today.

First there’s this little guy.

I was halfway through Edge Chart #1 of Laminaria when I both screwed up royally (and still cannot figure out for the life of me where I mess up) and decided that the yarn I was using was too thick to compliment the lace pattern. I haven’t frogged it yet but I did buy a gorgeous skein of Malabrigo Lace in Emerald to make myself feel better.

I also came home with this gorgeous skein of Cascade fingering. It’s almost like a dark periwinkle. *petpet* I’ve already cast on my second Rae for the KAL!

And lastly, I finally bought a button for my Morning Walk Headband! I haven’t sewn it on yet but I knew I wanted a non-boring wooden button and this one totally fits the bill.

Yes, I do still have three papers due this week. Yes, I did procrastinate all day. In my defense, once I stopped procrastinating I totally finished one of three papers. I think I deserve a new skein for each paper I finish. #dangerousterritory
