I’ve made five Daturas in the last two weeks. FIVE. Definitely did not intend for that to happen. Definitely still have two or three in my head that I want to make. Whoops.

I think this one is my favorite though.

When I first saw the pattern, I knew I’d end up buying it because of the peter pan collar. The cut-outs seemed cool but not really me, and I actually didn’t even bother cutting out that pattern piece. Except then I saw other people’s cut-out Daturas and suddenly I needed one. And then three more. Somehow of the five I’ve made, only one of them actually has the peter pan collar.

Anyways, this pattern is awesome. And slightly complicated but SO quick once you get the hang of the shouldery inside-out thing. Which is totally genius and makes the entire garment so neat and tidy. I wanted to experiment with a bit of a racerback on this one and I really like how it turned out. Easy peasy, too.

Andd now I’m off to molest the Laurel pattern I bought today.. tehe. In my defense, I’m testing it out to see if it’ll work for my Clara dress copycat!

And yes, I will be posting the other Daturas when I have time to take photos on a day when it isn’t 1092382 degrees. hee.

PS I’m SO excited that so many of you are interested in participating in the Copycat Challenge. I have some fun posts planned, and I’ll be posting my progress on my copycat projects soon, so look out for that!

Slump

Progress

Well then. I had every intention of spending two and a half weeks sewing and blogging my little heart out, until I sat down and realized I was in a sewing slump. Hate when that happens. I also completely epic failed at Me Made May. In my defense, I did get a nasty cold and getting dressed up when you’re sick is about as fun as un-picking a zigzag seam in chiffon. Which, incidentally, I get to do this evening.

I got my inspiration back today though! I went on a bit of a spree at fabric.com and then went to my local fabric store and found THE perfect fabric for a dress I’ve been on the lookout for.

Any guesses?

Boston :(

Hi guys, just wanted to check in really quick and let everyone I’m ok! I had several posts planned for this week but obviously with everything going on here in Boston that got pushed back.

I still can’t believe any of this is happening. I live about a mile away from the finish line and was literally about to leave my apartment when my roommate told me what had happened. Boyfriend and I were supposed to meet up there a few hours earlier but silly me took forever getting ready so luckily we weren’t there when it happened.

If you haven’t heard, they just caught the second suspect so everyone here is breathing a sigh of relief. It’s been kind of a scary day due to the lock down and not really knowing what’s going on but thank god it’s over.

I hope any of you in Boston (and Texas!) are safe and sound. And if anyone needs a laugh, this is pretty funny.

Have I mentioned how obsessed I am with Doctor Who? I started watching ten days ago and I’m currently finishing up season six. Yeah, whoops? So far I remain skeptical about Matt Smith. And Amy Pond. And the new tardis. And the new intro theme. *scowl*

And can I just mention that I have absolutely no idea why it took me this long to get into this show?? I mean, I sort of know why. I’m well aware of my tendency to get over-obsessed with things, particularly with tv shows (e.g. Firefly, LotR, X-Files, I could go on but this is embarrassing enough) and I just didn’t have the time or energy to add another one to the list. Another one I knew I’d go completely bonkers over. Still though, how I managed to go the last eight years without knowing anything about Doctor Who other than the title and that it was something sci-fi-y is beyond me. Up until ten days ago I thought a tardis was a little blue creature that followed the Doctor around!

Unrelated: I miss David Tennant. I may have a slight lady-boner for him.

Anyway, I made this dress on a whim last week. Let’s call it the sewing equivalent of a rain dance, except wishing for sun and warm weather. Which makes no sense and is completely backward so let’s not actually call it that.

I used this pattern from Burdastyle, with minor adjustments to the bust area. I also lowered the neckline by about two inches and shortened the skirt a few inches as well.

And no, I did not start this entry intending to ramble endlessly about Doctor Who.

So a few months ago I decided to step outside my comfort zone of colors and buy this lovely yellow fabric. And then I had no idea what to do with it.

And then I bought Deer and Doe‘s Belladone pattern and decided it would be adorable in this print with a pleated skirt.

I love how it turned out, I’m just not 100% sure the color suits me. But yay for branching out!
