top: self-made // shorts: Roxy (thrifted) // shoes: Minnetonkaย
I’ve made five Daturas in the last two weeks. FIVE. Definitely did not intend for that to happen. Definitely still have two or three in my head that I want to make. Whoops.
I think this one is my favorite though.
When I first saw the pattern, I knew I’d end up buying it because of the peter pan collar. The cut-outs seemed cool but not really me, and I actually didn’t even bother cutting out that pattern piece. Except then I saw other people’s cut-out Daturas and suddenly I needed one. And then three more. Somehow of the five I’ve made, only one of them actually has the peter pan collar.
Anyways, this pattern is awesome. And slightly complicated but SO quick once you get the hang of the shouldery inside-out thing. Which is totally genius and makes the entire garment so neat and tidy. I wanted to experiment with a bit of a racerback on this one and I really like how it turned out. Easy peasy, too.
Andd now I’m off to molest the Laurel pattern I bought today.. tehe. In my defense, I’m testing it out to see if it’ll work for my Clara dress copycat!
And yes, I will be posting the other Daturas when I have time to take photos on a day when it isn’t 1092382 degrees. hee.
PS I’m SO excited that so many of you are interested in participating in the Copycat Challenge. I have some fun posts planned, and I’ll be posting my progress on my copycat projects soon, so look out for that!
I think your idea to add a racer back to this pattern is inspired! And this print is perfect with your Minnetonkas.
Thanks! Yayyy Minnetonkas! You were so right, this was the best decision ever.
I think I need this pattern in my life. The more Datura tops I see you make, the more I want to make one myself.
On a different note, how did you color your hair? At home or salon? What product did you use? Bleach? I have been thinking of coloring my hair red and your’s is the exact color/shade I have been thinking of.
Thanks! I did my hair at home with this color: http://www.amazon.com/Garnier-Nutrisse-Haircolor-Nourishing-Permanent/dp/B003B2QCK6 No bleach, nothing else. It’s meant for dark hair that’s never been dyed and it actually shows up pretty well considering my hair is so dark! I also use pigmented hair conditioner to maintain the color between dyes.
Oh, also, I have the screen accurate Clara dress you are planning to copycat. If you need detailed photos, I would be happy to provide them.
Omg you’re a doll. I will totally be taking you up on that! ๐
If I have time, I definitely want to take part in the copycat challenge. I’ve got tons of ideas. I love how you made it into a racer back, the datura. This pattern is on top of my wish list. I may also make several versions to use up some stash fabric. That’s how I ended up with 4 briars.
Hahaha that’s awesome. I think this is a pattern (heh see what I did there?) I have four Darling Ranges, three Kellys, 2.5 Belladones.. Hey, we’re getting our money’s worth!
Definitely! Especially those indie patterns are quite expensive, so it’s good to make them multiple times.
Love this!! The cut-outs are so interesting, they add a nice architectural detail.
Thanks! They’re waay easier than I thought they’d be too.
I love the fabric you chose! I really need to get my hands on this pattern. I’ve loved everyone’s makes of this.
Thanks! I’ve seen some gorgeous ones, eyelet lace, black/white contrast, color blocking..
such a cute top! i love the slight racerback. five? that’s a lot! can’t wait to see more of them!
Hehe thanks! And yuuup, probably more to come too.
Gahhh love it.. I really need to buy this pattern
Doooo it ๐
The cutout version is my favourite – you definitely do it justice! Love the fabric and mixed with the short shorts ๐ Looking great!
Thaanks! I keep wanting to make more peter pan collared ones but every fabric I pick out just screams cut outs.
Great Datura! The racerback alteration is very pretty, and I’m very curious to see your other versions!
Thank you! I’ll post them soon!

This is so adorable! I’m desperate to make a bunch of these, but I haven’t had the time! Yours is perfect, and I can’t wait to see the others!
Thanks! Yeahhh, it’s a bit of a floodgate. ๐
