Sewing in circles

DSC_1153

It’s drizzly and muggy out today, which I’ve decided is the perfect weather for working on abandoned quilts with a mug of tea. I started this one aaages ago and have been neglecting it in favor of making a million Darling Ranges.

What’s funny is I was inspired to work on it again because I kept thinking how adorable it would look on my bed with all of my finished dresses hanging nearby.

Anyway, I realized that I had accumulated a ton more scrap fabrics (from all of those dresses!) and decided to cut some more pieces to incorporate more variety in fabrics. I love how it’s turning out!

In retrospect, I have absolutely no idea why I chose this as my third ever quilt. It’s quite a beast of a project. And I’m still pretty terrible at sewing in circles.

But look! It has hearts!

Dresden monsters

While I was waiting for my quilt batting to arrive, I may have accidentally wandered into the fabric store and wandered out again with more fabric. And it’s possible that the finished dimensions of this quilt are going to be bigger than the first one. Whoops.

In my defense, the first quilt turned out rather boyish and aren’t these fabrics just adorbs together?

This one is taking much more time, even though it requires only twenty (much bigger) squares (the other one was made up of sixty-four smaller ones). So far I’ve only finished one complete square, and have started maybe seven more.

Doesn’t it just make you want to puke happily on a prairie?

In other news, I am awful at sewing in circles.

Whoops

A few weeks ago I decided that my yarn stash was getting ridiculous.

Well, respectively ridiculous, considering I’ve only been knitting for a year and I’m knitting on a student budget.

Anyway, I made a list of unfinished projects and projects I already have yarn for but haven’t started and projects I wanted to frog and make into better projects. And I decided I’m not allowed to buy yarn until that list is complete.

And I’ve been doing really well. The last time I bought yarn was nearly a month ago. (Is that true? I might be lying. I can’t remember.)

The problem is that apparently I’ve decided to compensate by picking up sewing again.

Last week I bought these. (Yes, that is a Janet Arnold book they are sitting on. Two actually. I love Janet Arnold. To bits. Lots of bits.)

And I just walked out of a fabric store with these.

And these.

No, I have no idea where this desire to make a quilt came from.

And no, I’m not entirely sure I love the combination of darker colors. Although I’m absolutely in love with the lighter ones.

So uh, yeah. Frugality fail.
