Adventures in accent walls

My new room is officially painted!

I had originally wanted to go with a dark purple. These were all of my options.

I aso randomly decided to pick up a few turquise and aqua colored paint chips and I’m glad I did because after staring at the [albeit gorgeous] purple paint chips for ages, I decided the turquoise was much more me.

This was the way it looked before we started.

Pretty paint blobbies.

Halfway there! one coat down, one to go!

Andddd finished! I wanted the shelf sticking out to really pop so I left it white.

The entire thing took about 4-5 hours through the course of the day. We had to tape the entire room, paint the first layer, wait several hours, paint the second layer, and then go back the next day to take the tape off.

But yay! I’m moving in tomorrow!

Room decor fun! aka Pinterest addiction

So if anyone’s interested in the long list of reasons I haven’t posted in ten years, it includes everything from not having internet to getting norovirus to my keyboard epic failing. In fact, I’m back in the land of interwebs and recovered from norovirus but am somehow getting by typing on a keyboard with a broken o, l, and enter key. I keep copy-pasting the letters I need, and needess to say, it’s taking forever.

Anyway, I’m getting ready to move next week so of course instead of spending my time packing like a responsible adult, I’ve made a new board on Pinterest and have been pinning all sorts of ideas for pretty room decor.

This is vaguely the color scheme I’m going for.

I find it hilarious that it was inspired by this photo.

I made my own version of this duvet cover. I’m considering doing some pillows too.

This is the paint color I’m going with. Unless I change my mind tomorrow at the store.

I’m trying smething different with my bed this time. First of all I’m downgrading to a full because the room is so small that my queen would just take up all of the space. I also decided to get a plain wooden ikea bed which I’m going attempt t uphster. More on that later but here is the fabric I’ll be using for that.

Andd meet the rug I bought today! I had a different one in mind but when I went in to look at it, it just seemed a little too big, a little too dark, and a little too off. luckily this one was sitting nearby screaming “Buy meeee instead!” So I did.

Anyhoo, I’m super excited to get to start putting everything together! And I’m crossing my fingers this doesn’t all end up looking heinous together..

Sidenote: fabric.com is having a fantastic sale right now, and on top of that, you can use the promo code THX128 THX218 [sorry!] to get 15% off your order! [I’m not affiliated with them, I just discovered this as I was ordering and wanted to share!]

Almost back!

Well, at the beginning of summer I had the mistaken impression that summer would be full of free time and daily postings. Clearly I was mistaken.

In any case, Boyfriend and I got back to the east coast yesterday and are currently spending the weekend at a friend’s. Then on Monday I get to start the super fun process of packing and getting ready to move! I’m super excited about the new apartment, just not the moving bit.

Anyway, the point is, long absence is almost over, and in the meantime, enjoy the hilarious photo of me passed out cuddling with Boyfriend’s dog.

Shoulds

I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned this but I’m off to France in less than a week! I studied abroad there in college and I try to go back every year or two to visit the Host Fam. This time Boyfriend is meeting me there for a few weeks of sunshine and culture shock. :]

While this is all very awesome and exciting, I’ve been absolutely terrible at getting ready for this trip! I should really start carrying a small notebook to write down all of the things I suddenly think of to pack.

To be fair, I tossed my passport in the front pocket as well as a travel adapter so I’ve got the very bare necessities. Andd I have clothes (but no undies) for about three days. Go me!

Andd here’s all of the stuff I’ve meant to blog about but haven’t gotten around to finishing because of the stupid heat.

These are all about 90% done but need an hour or two of tweaking to be finished and wearable. Look for them soon..ish.

PS this pen tablet is so much fun! You’ll have to forgive the blatant overuse.

Weekend Wants

I’m really excited for this heat wave to end because my productivity has been abysmally low. My apartment building is very old and terrible at keeping out the heat, so it ends up being just as hot inside as out. It’s pretty miserable.

I’ve been consoling myself by looking at pretty things on Pinterest. I might start making this a weekly post just because it inspires me to work on things on my Sewing Inspiration board –and, uh, buy the things in my Wants board. *cough*

This week I’ve been super obsessed with collars. Nothing new, really, I just keep seeing them everywhere. How gorgeous is this dress? I want to make one in every color!

My first Sorbetto was kind of a trial run so I went with a cheap and plain fabric. I want to do the same thing again but in a polka dotted print, like this one!

I bought a pattern for a simple button up shirt recently and I’ve been toying with the idea of making it into a dress. Like this one.

Or this one!

This shop on Etsy is absolutely adorable. I love love love this camera pendant!

I’ve also been lusting over the flower hair pieces from this Etsy shop. I need to do more interesting things with my hair. In high school I never wore my hair the same way two days in a row –which is not to say I didn’t go to school with some weird hair-dos a lot of the time, but I miss that attitude. Plus, how gorgeous is her hair?

I also recently discovered this food blog and holy salivation! I’ve been trying to eat healthier lately so I love running into blogs written by people who love food but strive to be healthy at the same time. I tried her recipe for green chile enchiladas tonight and it was so yum! I have a few tweaks to make next time but definitely a great recipe!

This weekend I’ll be hiding out at Boyfriend’s to avoid the heat. Shh, don’t tell him but I’m only dating him for his air conditioning. *wink*

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
