The countdown is on

In two weeks this hellish semester, also known as the black hole of endless papers, will be over and I’ll have six glorious weeks off! I’ve been making a mental list of all of the things I want to do when I recover my sanity.

1) Make a latch hook rug. I’ve been dying to do one of these for ages and seeing the one on A Beautiful Mess recently rekindled that desire.

2) Experiment with attempting to make a blazer. I’ve never made one before and for some reason it just sounds daunting. We’ll see how this goes. And yes, this is directly related to the New Girl marathon I had the other day.

3) Make a schmancy tote bag. Also something I’ve never sewn before. Less daunting though. Andd now I’ve jinxed it. Poo.

4) Finish Seester’s Christmas present. From last year. -whoops-

5) Spin ALL the yarn and work on that cabley almost-all-from-scratch sweater I started.

December 17th. Freedom day. 13 days to go!

In the meantime, the roomies and I started Christmas decorating!

Insta-update

Sometimes I remember that I have a smart phone with a camera, and occasionally I remember that I have instagram on it. So here’s an insta-version of the past few weeks.

1. I’ve been working on a sweater that’s been driving me nuts because of the gauge. I thought I had it right but my first attempt ended up doll-sized. Now I’ve finally made a front that I think will fit a human being (hopefully me) and I’m just starting the back. *fingers crossed*

2. New shoes! I usually only own one pair of flats (not counting flat boots) because I prefer heels even if my feet don’t, and my one pair is finally dying. I saw these online and neeeded them. They’re a teensy bit too small but I took a hairdryer to them and now they fit and just need to be broken in a little more. Yayy I can’t wait to wear them with everything. Have I mentioned how much I love Seychelles?

3. They finally installed my “closet” rod thingy!

4. I <3 new clothes! By the way if anyone is thinking of shopping at Modcloth, they’re still doing that awesome $20 off $50 thing through October 31st!

5. Boyfriend got me flowers last week for absolutely no reason! We <3 Boyfriend.

6. My friend and I went to see the Video Game Orchestra this weekend. Hoooly crap, they were amazing. I may have teared up during the Castlevania song. And the Final Fantasy VII song. And I’ve never played either game! Look them up, they’re incredible.

7./8. I also finally put up some of my organizational wall stuff. The one on the left holds earrings, rings, bracelets, has hooks on the side for necklaces and two pegs underneath for headbands and scarves. The one on the left is for my measly nail polish collection. In my defense, I threw out all my nail polish last year when I moved across the country and started fresh.

Andd now I’m off to be productive. My goal for today is to finish a paper that’s due the day before Halloween just to get it out of the way. We’ll see if that actually happens.

Speaking of Halloween, does anyone have any costume suggestions for me? It’s my absolute favorite holiday (shocking, right?) and I’m drawing a blank.

Apples!

This weekend Boyfriend and I went apple picking! I don’t know what it is about fruit-picking places that has always appealed to me but it was a blast.

There was a little market area and then we took a hayride out to the actual orchards.

They had 15,000 trees in all sorts of varieties. It was amazing! And here I am hiding in an apple tree. I’m clearly invisible.

Yes, that is a new dress. And yes, I made it specifically for this trip. Therefore yes, I am a huge nerd.

And finally, pumpkins! Because fall is awesome.

And no, I’m not counting that as a new dress post. I’ll put up a details post when I figure out a good place to take photos in my new apartment. The last batch I did turned out dark and weird.

PS Thanks for everyone’s opinions on the previous post! I was leaning toward the lace at first but on second thought, you guys are totally right, it would’ve been too much. I also agree that I definitely need to make a lace-collared top now! Hellooo Banksia?

PPS Are you guys aware of Modcloth’s awesome promo going on until the end of the month? If you buy $50 of stuff you get $20 off! I may  have spent an embarrassing amount of time yesterday looking at pretty dresses..

It is blissfully nice to be able to unpack my things and start organizing my new room. While my summer was amazing, it was getting more than a little tiring to be continuously living out of suitcases and boxes. In fact, I went on a huge grocery shopping spree this weekend and spend nearly all of yesterday cooking. It was so nice to be able to try a bunch of the recipes I bookmarked ages ago!

I’m also mostly in denial about the fact that school starts up again tomorrow. To be fair, two of my four classes are on Monday, and we have today off, so I get to ease into the first week with only two classes. So I really shouldn’t be complaining.

In my defense, I’ve been separated from my yarn stash and my sewing machine since the end of June. I found a few dresses I had been working on right before I left for France and nearly cried. I’ll just be locking myself in my scrumptious new room for a straight week to work on all of these thankyouverymuch.

Or I could be a responsible adult and go do the four chapters of reading that one of my professors has already so kindly assigned. (Although to be honest, I already snuck a peek at the first chapter and the book sounds awesome! </hermione>)

One of my favorite things about my new room is the built in shelving. I was almost a little overwhelmed while I was unpacking, trying to decide what I should put on each of the shelves. I’m pretty happy with the way this one turned out. Excuse the chaos in the top and bottom shelves. I had thought I’d found all my yarn but then discovered three more bags I had forgotten about. Whoops. Who’s not allowed to buy yarn anymore for a while? -raises hand-

I hope everyone’s having a great long weekend!

Unpacking and more unpacking

The past few days have been jam-packed with moving-related adventures. There was the actual move out, then the move in, then the Ikea and Home Depot trip, and then the cleaning of the old apartment, followed by the return of the old apartment keys.

I think today will be my first errand-less day to stay at home and lounge and unpack. -fingers crossed-

Anyway, I’m really excited to have everything out of boxes and put away so I can stop having to dig through stuff trying to find other stuff. I did manage to unpack my makeup and set it up on my dresser! I’ve always wanted a makeup “area” (other than the bathroom) and this worked out perfectly!

I have two diy-ed hanging wall shelfy things that will go on the wall next to this and will hold accessories and hair stuffs.

Now time for a snack and then more unpacking!
