Have I mentioned how obsessed I am with Doctor Who? I started watching ten days ago and I’m currently finishing up season six. Yeah, whoops? So far I remain skeptical about Matt Smith. And Amy Pond. And the new tardis. And the new intro theme. *scowl*

And can I just mention that I have absolutely no idea why it took me this long to get into this show?? I mean, I sort of know why. I’m well aware of my tendency to get over-obsessed with things, particularly with tv shows (e.g. Firefly, LotR, X-Files, I could go on but this is embarrassing enough) and I just didn’t have the time or energy to add another one to the list. Another one I knew I’d go completely bonkers over. Still though, how I managed to go the last eight years without knowing anything about Doctor Who other than the title and that it was something sci-fi-y is beyond me. Up until ten days ago I thought a tardis was a little blue creature that followed the Doctor around!

Unrelated: I miss David Tennant. I may have a slight lady-boner for him.

Anyway, I made this dress on a whim last week. Let’s call it the sewing equivalent of a rain dance, except wishing for sun and warm weather. Which makes no sense and is completely backward so let’s not actually call it that.

I used this pattern from Burdastyle, with minor adjustments to the bust area. I also lowered the neckline by about two inches and shortened the skirt a few inches as well.

And no, I did not start this entry intending to ramble endlessly about Doctor Who.

A lesson

Mia v2.0

Today’s project in progress comes with a public service announcement.

PRE-WASH YOUR FABRICS.

Yes, I know. We’re all told this from day one and this is hardly new or revolutionizing information.

But somehow it turned into one of those things that sometimes ends up on the “I’m too lazy, I’ll just skip it” list, along with making muslins and ironing after each step. *guilty*

And before this, I never ever had a shrinking problem. If anything, I usually made things a bit loose and then once they went through the washer they’d fit perfectly. So of couse, I got cocky.

And then my washing machine ate my favorite dress. 🙁 Well, technically by ate, I mean shrank to the size of a tunic. Whoops.

So now I’m being good. I’ve washed my fabric and I’m starting over on this one. Luckily it was pretty simple and I managed to find more of nearly the same fabric. Phew.

Anyway, if you’re not pre-washing your fabrics, you probably should.

Yellow Belladone

So a few months ago I decided to step outside my comfort zone of colors and buy this lovely yellow fabric. And then I had no idea what to do with it.

And then I bought Deer and Doe‘s Belladone pattern and decided it would be adorable in this print with a pleated skirt.

I love how it turned out, I’m just not 100% sure the color suits me. But yay for branching out!

Bows for days

Today was the first day that has actually felt like spring! I even took dress photos without tights on! Let’s hope this weather stays around.

I made this dress a while ago and then it sat in my closet getting dusty because it’s not exactly snow appropriate. I used Burda 7739 for the dress itself (minus the sleeves) and then this tutorial for the bow. And it has pockets!

Yay for spring!
