diy-ing

I haven’t had much time to post lately (this may or may not have something to do with the fact that Skyrim magically found its way onto my laptop..) but I just wanted to pop in and share something I’ve been working on this week.

I’ve been sort of obsessed with diy blogs lately and after oggling this post and this post, I decided I wanted to make something similar.

It’s obviously still a work in progress but I’ll post more pictures when I’m done.

Which likely won’t be until next week because this weekend I’m going to Montreaaaal!

Dresden monsters

While I was waiting for my quilt batting to arrive, I may have accidentally wandered into the fabric store and wandered out again with more fabric. And it’s possible that the finished dimensions of this quilt are going to be bigger than the first one. Whoops.

In my defense, the first quilt turned out rather boyish and aren’t these fabrics just adorbs together?

This one is taking much more time, even though it requires only twenty (much bigger) squares (the other one was made up of sixty-four smaller ones). So far I’ve only finished one complete square, and have started maybe seven more.

Doesn’t it just make you want to puke happily on a prairie?

In other news, I am awful at sewing in circles.

Monster quilt

There’s been a lot of quilting happening lately.

Remember those little piles of strips? Well those got cut into triangles. Which got sewn into squares. Which turned into this mess.

No, seriously. This thing is monstrously huge.

And all of the panels are sewn together, I just haven’t taken a photo of that yet. I bought some batting for it too. I just need to find a proper backing fabric. Any ideas on colors?

There is some sort of fairy magic conspiracy associated with stockinette stitch.

When I first started this sweater I knitted half of it in three days. And then it dragged on and on and on. And then there was some frogging. And then I was all done except for the sleeves. And then three months went by where I could hardly seem to put a dent in it.

And then I picked it up two weeks ago and finished it in two days.

Fairy magic, I tell you.

Georgia

(Sorry for blurry, camera phone..)

This sweater took me two tries. I think the first time I started off knitting a size 36 which was waaay too big. It’s possible my gauge was wonky. When I started over I knitted a size 32 until the sleeve separation and then starting knitting a size 28 for the rest. I also added a few inches to the body.

And now I have to decide what color to make the next one in.. Maybe a ballerina pink? Or bright red? or green? (Knit ALL the colors!)

PS Happy Valentine’s Day!
