Apples!

This weekend Boyfriend and I went apple picking! I don’t know what it is about fruit-picking places that has always appealed to me but it was a blast.

There was a little market area and then we took a hayride out to the actual orchards.

They had 15,000 trees in all sorts of varieties. It was amazing! And here I am hiding in an apple tree. I’m clearly invisible.

Yes, that is a new dress. And yes, I made it specifically for this trip. Therefore yes, I am a huge nerd.

And finally, pumpkins! Because fall is awesome.

And no, I’m not counting that as a new dress post. I’ll put up a details post when I figure out a good place to take photos in my new apartment. The last batch I did turned out dark and weird.

PS Thanks for everyone’s opinions on the previous post! I was leaning toward the lace at first but on second thought, you guys are totally right, it would’ve been too much. I also agree that I definitely need to make a lace-collared top now! Hellooo Banksia?

PPS Are you guys aware of Modcloth’s awesome promo going on until the end of the month? If you buy $50 of stuff you get $20 off! I may  have spent an embarrassing amount of time yesterday looking at pretty dresses..

Unpacking and more unpacking

The past few days have been jam-packed with moving-related adventures. There was the actual move out, then the move in, then the Ikea and Home Depot trip, and then the cleaning of the old apartment, followed by the return of the old apartment keys.

I think today will be my first errand-less day to stay at home and lounge and unpack. -fingers crossed-

Anyway, I’m really excited to have everything out of boxes and put away so I can stop having to dig through stuff trying to find other stuff. I did manage to unpack my makeup and set it up on my dresser! I’ve always wanted a makeup “area” (other than the bathroom) and this worked out perfectly!

I have two diy-ed hanging wall shelfy things that will go on the wall next to this and will hold accessories and hair stuffs.

Now time for a snack and then more unpacking!

Adventures in accent walls

My new room is officially painted!

I had originally wanted to go with a dark purple. These were all of my options.

I aso randomly decided to pick up a few turquise and aqua colored paint chips and I’m glad I did because after staring at the [albeit gorgeous] purple paint chips for ages, I decided the turquoise was much more me.

This was the way it looked before we started.

Pretty paint blobbies.

Halfway there! one coat down, one to go!

Andddd finished! I wanted the shelf sticking out to really pop so I left it white.

The entire thing took about 4-5 hours through the course of the day. We had to tape the entire room, paint the first layer, wait several hours, paint the second layer, and then go back the next day to take the tape off.

But yay! I’m moving in tomorrow!

France <3

DSC_1320

Welp, I’m off to the airport soon! I’ll be in the south of France for the next two and a half weeks! I’ll have limited access to the interwebs so I’ll try to post but no promises.

Have a lovely few weeks!

PS Don’t you hate that nagging feeling where you can just feel that you’re forgetting something vitally important but you can’t even begin to guess what it might be? Gahhh!

Mad Men florals

DSC_1244

Sometimes I decide to do crazy things like make a dress in one day. Sometimes it’s fine because the reason for rushing has more to do with the excitement of working on it than a deadline. Other times it’s because I have a Mad Men party to go to the next day and had completely forgotten to make something to wear to it.

This was one of the latter.

I thought I was planning ahead, I had a Betty Draper dress all picked out to replicate (and by replicate, I mean loosely. I’m not a huge fan of the pointy boob thing and I really can’t wear a skirt that long), and I even ordered a lovely vintage 1960s dress pattern on Etsy. I did everything but remember to buy fabric and, you know, start sewing it.

It was a bit of a stressful day, but luckily the pattern was pretty basic (despite missing the instructions!) and I managed to cobble together this lovely thing.

I even had time leftover to make this poofy monstrosity to go under it! See how un-poofy it is without it? A miracle, I tell you. 14 yards worth of miracle.

I used this tutorial.

And now I want to make that pretty blue dress Jane wears. The one with the gorgeous tie collar.

Uh oh. This is a dangerous path.

What’s your favorite Mad Men dress?
