Lace bow dress progress

I’m kind of fickle, I admit it. My sister can attest to how many times a week I have to call her to help me make up my mind about something, and then I’ll change my mind again an hour later. It’s rather annoying, really. But I guess it shouldn’t come as such as surprise to me that I’ve changed my mind about which New Girl dress I wanted to sew for my own Copycat Challenge.

At last count, I had watched New Girl all the way through three times. Somehow I had completely missed this dress until the third time through. It shows up in the episode with the almost-threesome with the landlord, and it’s all I could stare at during the entire episode. Thanks to the existence of What Would Zooey Deschanel Wear, I was able to pore over the detail shots of this beauty by Corey Lynn Calter on Modcloth.

I scoured eBay for crochet flower appliques and somehow managed to find one that was similar enough and also the same size. I found the button and a similar trim for the waist (not pictured) at a local discount fabric store. I bought some lace for the armhole trim but on closer examination it’s totally the wrong kind of trim so I’ll have to go on a hunt again. I also forgot about the black ribbon or trim for the neckline.

I’m using Simplicity 1873 (yes, again!) with some adjustments. I lowered the neckline and flattened it a bit (is that the right technical term?), and lengthened the bodice by about 3/4″. I sewed the neckline and armhole sides with the wrong sides together, and then I flipped it right side out and am going to treat it as one piece for the rest of the process. I was a little worried about the lace showing through but I trimmed it down at the seams and it seems to be doing ok. The bodice is lined with black cotton and I’ll be doing a regular rectangle pleated skirt, probably lined in something light and cream colored.

And now I’m going to go bury myself in fabrics and relish the day off. Happy Labor Day everyone (who celebrates it)!

PS I’m a little behind on posting Copycat Projects. I think I have about 2-3 that need to be posted. Sorry about that, I’ll try to get those up today!

I’m going to be so toasty in Boston.

I’m on the brink of drowning in WIPs.

I think I’m going to need to impose a rule for myself. I’m now officially only allowed to start one new project for every WIP I finish. As in off the needles, pinned to the ground, and waiting to dry.

Oh but look at this lovely squishy circle scarf I just found!

Actually this might not be as difficult as it sounds, seeing as how in all reality most of my WIPs are only a few hours away from becoming FOs.

Take Aidez for example. I started this one only a few days ago and I’m already done with the back and nearly finished with one of the side panels. I could definitely finish the whole thing this weekend if it weren’t for the Super Secret Project. Although at the rate I’m going I’ll probably finish it anyway while the Super Secret Project weeps under my bed.

Sidenote: I was so excited about knitting this that I took a picture so I could blog about it. Except I was so excited about knitting it that instead of blogging about it, I knitted more and now it’s more than double its current length and this photo is officially outdated.

Another sidenote: I have a huge box of awesome amazing looseleaf jasmine tea at home that I’ve started bringing to work in a small ziploc baggy. It pretty much looks like a bag of weed.

Going back to WIPS (my mind is kind of a disorganized arena of clutter today, can you tell?), I’m going through my current projects in my head and I mostly just have really stupid blocks on all of them.

-Beatnik: finished back and sleeves, 20% done with front piece but the fifteen different cable techniques requires constant checking of the pattern which means I can’t really be doing much else simultaneously.

-Peaks Island: I’m currently missing the motivation and brainless mood required to complete 9″ of pure seed stitch.

-Little Birds: I think I just have a mental block against fingering weight yarn right now seeing as how I’ve been primarily working on a bulky project and it would just feel so slow in comparison.

-Super Secret Project: It’s just the looming deadline that’s getting to me, so of course I keep procrastinating. Makes perfect sense, mm?

Anddd it’s time for another mug of tea because my eyelids are getting droopy.

Call me weird but yesterday I came home from work and immediately developed a huge craving for oranges. I peeled a bunch of clementines and broke the sections apart and stuck them in the fridge for a bit. I guess I won’t be getting scurvy anytime soon.

In other news, it’s my weekend!

I was so excited about finally getting to the color-work portion of Little Birds that I somehow got through a whole pattern repeat last night. This sweater is actually coming along pretty quickly now that the ribbing is done.

I’m a little rusty on colorwork so the birds aren’t as pretty as everyone else’s pictures on Ravelry. Or maybe it’s just the fact that I keep holding it two centimeters from my nose and inspecting it for mistakes.
Little birds
Aren’t they cute though??

I should also mention that I have absolutely no idea if I’m doing this right. I’m also terrified of the steaking part but we’ll cross that bridge in about four bird rows.

I might take a break from this in a bit to work on Beatnik because it’s been neglected for at least a week now.

Lastly, I’m pretty sure I’ve been spelling Ysolda Teague’s name incorrectly (with an “I”) up until today.
