A few things

in progress

1. I’m squeeing like a fangirl over this, but if you didn’t see, my Katniss dress was featured on Megan Nielsen’s blog yesterday! So much happy going on over here. :]

2. I think I had started learning to sew normal wearable in public clothes sometime around mid-May last year because I remember seeing “Me Made May” all over the interwebs but not really knowing what it was until it was mostly over. This year I signed up!

I, Ping of Peneloping, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’13. I endeavour to wear at least one self-made item of garment each day for the duration of May 2013. I also pledge to finish my hefty pile of non-costume-related UFOs and to make at least one dress a week.

I broke up with a lovely blue lace semi-backless dress that gave me all kinds of heartache last summer but it’s been a year and we’ve grown and I think maybe it’s time to reconcile. There’s also a chiffon dress (pictured above) that I’m pretty sure I ignored for a while because I made the bust too small but luckily I managed to stay (mostly) on track with lifting and eating clean all year and lost two bra sizes so it should fit now! And then there’s the dress that just needs its buttonholes sewn and a cord belt made. And a Kelly skirt that needs buttonholes and hemming. Ooh and a lilac checkered dress that I can’t even remember why I broke up with. And lastly a heinous 90s dress that I have plans to beautify.

3. One huge paper due this afternoon, one behemoth paper due next Monday, and then one last mini-final exam on the 13th and I’m officially done with most of the academic part of grad school! There is the pesky little dissertation-esque portion but I’m choosing to ignore that until September.

4. I was just mentally going through my wardrobe and planning out the first week of Me Made May when I realized that some days I don’t change out of pajamas (usually Fridays. And sometimes Sundays.). And then I was really thankful that I’ve made a few pajama bottoms. Does that defeat the purpose? hee.

The countdown is on

In two weeks this hellish semester, also known as the black hole of endless papers, will be over and I’ll have six glorious weeks off! I’ve been making a mental list of all of the things I want to do when I recover my sanity.

1) Make a latch hook rug. I’ve been dying to do one of these for ages and seeing the one on A Beautiful Mess recently rekindled that desire.

2) Experiment with attempting to make a blazer. I’ve never made one before and for some reason it just sounds daunting. We’ll see how this goes. And yes, this is directly related to the New Girl marathon I had the other day.

3) Make a schmancy tote bag. Also something I’ve never sewn before. Less daunting though. Andd now I’ve jinxed it. Poo.

4) Finish Seester’s Christmas present. From last year. -whoops-

5) Spin ALL the yarn so I can work on my almost-entirely-from-scratch sweater.

6) FINALLY take photos of the two dresses I made recently so I can post them.

December 17th. Freedom! Thirteen days to go.

In the meantime, the roomies and I have started putting up Christmas decorations!

Some things

Things that make me want to rip out my hair:

– I promised my sister I would start Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred today. I tried the ab toning one a few months ago and got through about twelve minutes. Haven’t worked out since, that’s how torturous it was. That lady is evil.

– I have a horrendous paper due tomorrow. It should be really easy but for some reason I’m having all sorts of trouble with it. Gah.

– I also have a presentation to give on Wednesday, two group projects due on the 23rd, and a paper due on the 30th. We’re not even going to peek into what I have due in the first nine days of May.

– I made a dress but the fabric is too thick and now it’s sitting funny. Gah.

– I made another dress and the fabric is possibly too thin and I’m afraid it’ll be see-through.

Things that make me smile inside:

– I got through a Jillian Michaels workout! Granted, I didn’t use weights because I don’t have any yet.. But still!

– I’m going to France in 84 days!

– I know I’m way behind the ball on this one but I’m really obsessed with Swedish Hasbeens.

– I’m considering taking a photography class.

– Boyfriend and I are going to his roomie’s family’s lake house next weekend!

– The two dresses I made are super cute!

– My hair is ridiculously long. I lurve it. I’ve been trimming it every few weeks but I’m determined to grow it to even more ridiculous proportions so I can dress up as a proper elf when the Hobbit comes out. (Yes, I am a huge nerd.)

– My camera. It’s just full of squees.

– I have a place to live next year!

And just because I have no interesting photos to share, here’s a one of me and Lyds out last week before school got crazy.
