Nothing really that interesting.

Have I mentioned lately how much I adore Knit Picks?
Don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait for the day when I can afford to knit garments from yarns that cost $30 per skein. But for someone juggling expensive hobbies and graduate school, this site is pretty damn awesome.

I’ve been really good lately about finishing up projects and using up scrap yarn for new projects so I decided to treat myself.

And by treat myself I mean that I just spent $96 and bought yarn for five new projects. FIVE.

I think maybe someone needs to remind me that I did just start graduate school.

In other news, I’m almost entirely moved into my new apartment! I’ll take pictures when we’ve got things more set up. I even have an entire shelf with cubbies for yarn/knitting supplies. Scrumptious!

Knitting-wise, I’m still chugging along with Georgia. Granted, I had it all done except for the sleeves when I decided to start over. Now I’m about eight out of twelve button-holes in and then have the sleeves left. I also started a Thermis, which I haven’t made a Ravelry page on yet. I’m using the leftover pale sea-green yarn from my Peaks Island Hood.

Anddd now back to homework. I have so much reading to do it’s ridiculous. Too bad they don’t make audiobook versions of textbooks so I can knit whilst “reading.”

Sidenote: Between Christmas presents and getting used to the grad school workload, I really won’t have that much time to be doing any commission work. Also I won’t have my sewing machine with me until after Thanksgiving so I won’t physically be able to do any sewing commissions in the meantime either. I’ll update again when I’m accepting commissions again but it likely won’t be until just after the holidays.

New camera squees!

I’d been eyeing the new Casio Exilim for ages and finally caved and ordered it on Saturday. This morning I woke up, stumbled out of my room, and there it was waiting for me outside my door.

Anyway, the point is I can take decent pictures of costumes now. Huzzah!

This is how far I’ve gotten with the ES wedding dress. The dress itself is mostly done, other than some lace that needs to be attached and I still have to hem the top of the upper skirt attachment. All that’s left is about three and a half butt-loads of gold leafy/straw embroidery. I have the pattern scaled and printed out, I just need to figure out where it goes.

As for my Halloween costume, I’ll have to post pictures of my almost-finished Snow White costume later. Squee for successfully gusseted sleeves!

My weekend goes from wednesday to friday.

My current work schedule allows me one entire day off, and my work week runs from Saturday to Tuesday. It’s interesting, to say the least. The point of that otherwise useless statement is that I get to spend all evening working on my current project: Elizabeth Swann’s wedding dress! Cue excitement.

I just bought some lovely champagne colored acrylic paint that I’m going to use on the gold leaf trim that I bought to tone down the shade before I sew it onto the sides of the dress. For the little fan-shaped flower oddities I’m going to use some raffia straw I bought from thecardladies.com. I know I bought the fabric and leaf trim on ebay but as it’s been years since I started this project, I can’t remember the names of the sellers.

I’m nearly done with the stomacher too! My first version of it looked like a lovely piece of satin with chocolate chip cookies pasted to it. I had cut out small circles of muslin, which I twirled cord onto and sewed down. I ended up having to put a layer of pseudo-English lace fabric over it and then sewing the pearls on top of that. I’m also using a thin ribbon folded into loops for the leafy detail surrounding each “cookie.”

Anyway, here is a progress photo. Apologies for the poor quality. Neither of my cameras wants to work right now so I had to hold my Mac up awkwardly and take a photo with Photo Booth.

I have a website again!

Ohai! I had a website about three years ago but it was cheesy and disorganized and only half a step up from a geocities site. Since I finally got a Mac, I decided my excuses for not putting one together again were dwindling. It could also have something to do with the fact that I just started another sweet project that I want to squee about and show off. Maybe. This site is obviously very much under construction. I have a million costumes that I actually have photos of already and need to organize into iWeb’s dandy little album function. Ideally, I’ll be making a section for completed costumes, a set of albums for photoshoots and fun stuff, and then this blog-ish section for all of my ramblings. And I should warn you, I do ramble.
