Chelsea collars and wearing things in public

This dress makes me super happy. It’s a replica of this one (why is making replicas so much fun? and why am I so obsessed with Dear Creatures???) and I made it entirely without a pattern, which I’m pretty rusty at, which is why it’s sort of wrinkly in a few places. I’m choosing to ignore them.

I used to pretty much only make costume replicas from historical or fantasy films (mostly Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Star Wars with some Lemony Snicket and Stardust thrown in) but it was kind of a bummer because I had these gorgeous dresses that I pretty much never wore, except to the occasional ren faire or Comic-Con. Although there was one occasion where my best friend and I walked to the grocery store dressed as Arwen and Padme. No one stared at all. Not a one.

Anyway, the point is this was a fun project.ย And I’ve already worn it out once! (There was no staring.)

*Note to self: learn to focus properly, kthx.

    1. Aww lame! I had to break up with this dress for a day because the waistband and I just weren’t getting along. Step away from yours for a day or two if you need to. Good luck!

    1. Oh you know, balmy 80s. Haha yeah no, I froze my ladyballs off. I did bring a peacoat with me though so I’d take a few pictures, throw on the coat, run to check the framing, take off the coat, and then repeat. I’m reeeally glad no one was up there watching.

  1. This dress is fabulous and I absolutely adore the way the skirt drapes/falls/whatever. And you styled this dress so nicely. The tights are phenom.

Have you been knitting much lately or mostly just sewing? And I’m impressed that you went outside in Boston in February wearing a sleeveless dress. I’m hoping it will stop snowing and warm up soon. I have some sleeveless dresses I want to make.

      1. Hahaha omg that’s hilarious, whoops! Hehe thanks for the comment! I’ve been sewing a lot more, although I’m trying to work on that fair isle sweater I posted last week. The TINIEST thing makes me put it down though. Yesterday it was having to do math on the sleeves (I’m lengthening them). It’s so not a big deal but it was just too much work haha. So yes, much more sewing going on lately. :]
