Sketches

I’m working on some fun stuff this weekend. I bought this fabric a week ago but I’ve been too scared to cut into it since I don’t have a pattern for this project and it’s been a while since I’ve free-handed a garment sans pattern. Yesterday I sat down and sketched it all out and made it all make sense in my head. I think I know what I’m doing now.

Wish me luck!

Do you have any exciting projects lined up for the weekend?

  1. Oo that looks very exciting! I’m planning on starting my Mad Men challenge dress, but this weekend is rapidly disappearing so it may be postponed! Good luck with yours x

  2. Your sketches are gorgeous, and I’m loving the fabric, trim, and buttons. Beautiful project already. Good luck and have fun!

Tonight I’m starting on a simple blazer, ultimately to be made out of a faille in a color that seems to match everything. The muslin fabric is a dark olive broadcloth, so I’m hoping for the bonus of a wearable muslin as well.

Can’t wait to see your creation.

    1. That sounds lovely! I bought a blazer pattern a few months ago but I’ve been too intimidated to try it out and I haven’t found the perfect fabric yet. Can’t wait to see how yours turns out!

  3. Your sketches look lovely and very promising! And the fabric looks gorgeous. One thing about the trim though, I put some similar trim on a garment ages ago and it was ruined in the washing machine. Somehow the threads started pulling. It’s likely I didn’t attach the trim properly so the threads could get loose, but if you have enough you could try out attaching a small piece to some fabric and see how it holds in the laundry (or maybe just attach it better than I did).

  4. Your sketches look beautiful. Is the long collar the front or the back? Either way, it’s really pretty. Looking forward to seeing your dress.
